The crash happened at around 10:20 a.m. Monday, April 10, in Sayville, on Montauk Highway near Broadway, according to Suffolk County Police.

Investigators said Ike Nelson, of Oakdale, was driving a Honda CRV eastbound on Montauk Highway, just east of Broadway, when he crossed into the oncoming lane before striking a tree.

Nelson was taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
